The "House of Little Scientists" writes an impressive success story. More than 12,500 child care centers have formed since 2007 in 165 regional networks to awaken early in children's interest in scientific phenomena and technology. Therefore, the BMBF is funding the project from next year with an additional two million euros.
The "House of Little Scientists" inspires kids to science and technology. It makes an outstanding contribution to early childhood education. So it can grow further, the BMBF supports the nationwide expansion of the initiative.
objective of the "House of Little Scientists" is the daily encounter with nature and technology permanently anchored in all kindergartens in Germany. In a practical approach supports the "House of Little Scientists" educators in their work, with contributions from one's parents. The aim is to provide children with basic experiments in science and technology and introduce them to get into it. So shall in children awakened as early as possible the interests and talents should be encouraged. In this way the "House of Little Scientists" contribute to strengthening early childhood education and the long-term employee retention in the natural sciences and engineering.
to achieve this qualification, the "House of Little Scientists" nationwide workshops educators in the field of child-oriented teaching of natural sciences, provides easy-to-use teaching materials and organizes a national week of action on science in early childhood.
The "House of Little Scientists" directed their educational work of the following principles.
first Children and teachers together make the learning process (co-construction) work
• teachers with the children ideas and approaches.
• Children learn from each other and exchange.
• The experimentation is not confined to the "Imitation" of experiments.
second Children realize that they learn what they learn and how they learn (meta-cognition)
• educators and focus on children not only content and activities but also the learning process itself.
• The phenomena stem from the child's living environment and are embedded in complex relationships.
• The documentation of the activities supported the learning process of children.
The BMBF is funding the project is currently at 3.8 million euros in the period 2008 to 2010.
