DAK survey shows: First of all families want more time for each other
Germany are stressed. Above all, families are seemingly under power, that two-thirds of them made specifically to relax more in the coming year. This led to the current DAK Health Barometer Year's resolutions for 2011 *.
want Overall, 59 percent for the year less stressful. For the families with children under 18 years are even 68 percent. They also want to especially more time to spend with their loved ones (73 to 56 percent). "Although our Christmas survey showed ** recently that most families are relaxed during the festive season, but saw the whole year, this does not appear to be" a psychologist Frank Meiners explained by the Afrika Korps, the new survey results. "Cope with the requirements in job, family and household in parallel, is often associated with permanent stress."

general notice that mainly young people between 18 - and 29-years some have made: They want more often than the average time for have family and friends, play sports, eat healthier, less television and, above all be more economical. 53 percent of them want to spend less money in 2011 - compared to "only" 32 percent of all respondents.
After all, half of Germany by their good intentions will last longer than three months. Older people aged 60 years they have long term to (56 percent). Women also seem more willing to be stronger than men (52 to 47 percent). Nationwide, considered here, the Brandenburg are 60 percent ahead. Laggards are the Saxons. Of these, only 37 percent longer time to keep the good intentions.

also against hepatitis B can be vaccinated. For children up to eighteen years the cost has been paid by health insurance, unfortunately, even adults, they must wear.
Just because chronic hepatitis B is very difficult to treat (often the drugs simply do not beat), vaccination is empfehlenswert.Sie can kill two birds with one stone hit by you can give the combined vaccination against hepatitis A and B. Given three injections are necessary. A month after the first dose will be the second, then due after six months or a vaccination. If you're in a hurry can be vaccinated after the quick scheme. In this case, one of the first seven days after vaccination, the second, third after twenty-one days. A fourth vaccination is then required after twelve months.
Another interesting thing we want to give to the Hand: The hepatitis B virus is warm World Health Organization hundred times more infectious than the HI virus that causes AIDS ! Also die in Germany per year, twice as many people with hepatitis B as from AIDS. Who would have thought ?....

Empirical evidence for a long-held suspicion
must Especially in the first years of life children get a lot more opportunity for playful singing, than this is the case today. This is the central result of an extensive study of 500 kindergarten children, conducted by Dr. Thomas Blank (Faculty of Sociology at the University of Bielefeld) and Dr. Charles Adams (University of Münster), together with the Health Department of the City of Münster was. Then a lot of singing children were under medical findings 88Prozent little singing children, however assessed only 44 percent as a rule ready for school.
The study provides the first convincing empirical evidence that singing promotes playful yet totally underrated, but irreplaceable measure the development of kindergarten children in all physical, mental and social areas. This is especially true for their language development, their social behavior and anger management. Every child can benefit from increased singing varied, especially children with a migrant background or from disadvantaged backgrounds. One explanation for this Findings provide neurobiological and physiological studies that include singing of happiness leads to increased production and to reduce aggression hormones. Therefore referred to the famous Göttingen neurobiologist and an expert on early childhood brain development Gerald Huether also singing as a "power food for children brain. Who sing the natural ability to develop, however, can not have, therefore, disadvantages in life.
All results of this study Thomas Blank and Karl Adamek have titled "Singing in childhood - an empirical study on the health and school readiness of kindergarten children and elementary Canto concept to practice transfer" in Waxmann Verlag (Münster) published.

11/26/2010 Religious people often punish unfair behavior even when they suffer themselves are drawbacks. This shows a new study by Professor Ernst Fehr of the University of Zurich on the role of faith for fair play.
The civilized human coexistence based on respect for social norms such as fairness, cooperation and honesty. What matters is that many people are willing to punish unfair behavior with punishment. This punishment, however, is often associated with disadvantages for the punisher. It can cause a loss of a be profitable transaction out if unfair methods condemned a business partner. Fair play, confronted with an economic advantage, and requires the repression of selfish impulses.
The belief in powerful, moralizing gods helps to suppress such selfish impulses. Those who believe that an omniscient, supernatural power expected of him to meet fair standards of behavior and enforce, it will also do more. Recent findings indicate that religious people tend to maintain the rules of fair play and participate in more prosocial behavior. At the same time is less likely that they cheat to gain an advantage.
Until now, however, has shown no one that promotes a religious background, the enforcement of rules of fairness, even if this creates its own disadvantage. For this reason, examined the research team led by Ernst Fehr, Charles Efferson (both University of Zurich), Ryan McKay (Royal Holloway University of London) and Harvey Whitehouse (Oxford University) the effect of religion on the punishment of unfair behavior, in the own disadvantages to be accepted.
donor punished more
The subjects played a simple economic game in which a player either for a fair result (He gets as much money as the second player) or can provide an unfair but economically advantageous result (the first player will get much more than the second player). The second player could then spend money to reduce the gain of the first player, that is to punish the first player. Before the second player should make the decision on the punishment to address a series of rapidly changing and not consciously perceptible words was shown - a religious vocabulary, secular punishment or control vocabulary words. In some of the subjects who were exposed to all the religious words, the altruistic punishment of unfair decisions adopted strongly - and in subjects who had recently donated to a religious organization.
This result suggests a mechanism that standards of fairness in large anonymous groups, strengthens and adds the question of how religions developed pro-social, an important finding. Religious people punished because they think that the supernatural power of this expected of them and they do not disappoint them. If the belief in a supernatural power strengthens the cooperative behavior within a group, then religion is an ever-increasing number of trailers to survive and thrive. In this way, wear these religions also for their own survival.

05/11/2010 Alzheimer's disease in its course, at least to that is Prof. Dr. Thomas Bayer and Dr. Oliver Wirths, Alzheimer's researcher in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Medicine Göttingen, succeeded in mice. Their Research results are based on a passive "vaccine" against Alzheimer's. As a drug they are using a newly developed antibodies. What is new in the approach: the antibody of the Göttingen scientists aimed not just at the typical Alzheimer's protein deposits in the brain, known as "plaques". Target is rather a special molecular structure that forms the protein "pyroglutamate Abeta. This protein have identified the researchers in Göttingen as the real culprits. With a specific antibody to this protein can be stopped early on its destructive force. The latest research results with a mouse model for Alzheimer's disease promise a successful new treatment approach. The research results were issued on 22 October 2010 Published in: Wirths et al. (2010) Journal of Biological Chemistry online
Previous treatment strategies are aimed primarily at the so-called plaques. This typical Alzheimer's protein deposits formed outside the neurons. The significance of the plaques of the disease process is still controversial among experts. Famous example is the American nuns become study. The more than 600 nuns have been regularly tested neuro-psychologically. Some of them also developed Alzheimer's. Surprisingly, however, that a lot of "plaques" in brains of Nuns were, their perception and learning skills were completely normal and had no signs of Alzheimer's disease. "We believe that plaques are a form of trash for the toxic Abeta protein. One would indeed fight against the emergence, but if they already exist, it can be therapeutically useful to them alone," says Prof. Bayer. "Exactly where our antibody.
In previous studies, the researchers had Alzheimer Göttingen demonstrated in various animal models that cause contrary to previous assumptions, the plaques to the death of nerve cells. They found evidence that the destructive cascade much earlier and in the interior of the Nerve cell is being started. In the post
now study the researchers derived in a trial of Prof. Thomas Bayer international consortium of colleagues from Synaptic Systems (Göttingen) and scientists from Amsterdam, Berlin, Bonn, Helsinki and Uppsala, a completely new structure of the pyroglutamate Abeta peptide discovered and developed contrast-specific antibodies. "These antibodies are the first to identify a soluble, more toxic Abeta variant. Unlike the previous antibodies, which were used for immunizations bind, they are not especially to plaques," says Prof. Bayer.
The newly developed antibodies particularly toxic clumps of pyroglutamate Abeta recognize so-called "oligomers". These oligomers accumulate in the brains of Alzheimer patients, there mainly in nerve cells and blood vessels. This will likely damage the blood vessels. The result is that the oligomers can not flow away from the brain. "We can see that the levels of oligomers in the blood of healthy individuals is high. In Alzheimer's patients have only low levels of oligomers found in the blood, but they are in the brain but much higher," says. Dr. Oliver Wirth: "This suited these antibodies as potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's in the blood and brain."
could In the current study demonstrate the Göttingen scientists for the first time that passive immunization with an oligomer-specific antibody, the plaques do not recognize, was successful. In animal models, the antibody was therapeutically effective and stabilized the learning behavior. The passive immunization, antibodies bind fed the toxic oligomers and make them harmless. "With this form of passive immunization, we can probably achieve no cure, but our research shows that the antibodies appeared to stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease," says Prof. Bayer.

October 2010 physicians, psychologists and social scientists form research network against child abuse
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) provides a total of 32 million euros for research projects on the extent, causes and consequences of abuse and violence in childhood and adolescence are available. "Violence and abuse against children and adolescents has been little scientific research," Federal Research Minister. "We urgently need reliable information on the abuse, neglect and violence against children. We expect that an important foundation to prevent child abuse and the victims to provide effective help," said Federal Minister for Research Annette Schavan.
In an interdisciplinary research network "abuse, neglect and violence" will work together the best scientists in Germany from the medical, psychological and social science research. The aim is to develop measures to improve prevention of violence against children and for effective treatment of those affected. The BMBF will provide this research network of around 20 million euros. "We hope that a systematic findings on the reasons, people to violence against children and young people move, and the physical and psychological effects of abuse and neglect in childhood, "says Annette Schavan.
also for promoting education of scientific research additional funding. The main goal in the field of educational research is to research areas to vote and research networks set up. By expanding the knowledge base, the initial, -. and training on dealing with abuse cases makes sense to be developed and expanded
To improve the data base is to support the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, an update and expansion of the only German representative survey of 1992 on the topic of sexual abuse of children. Like 1992, the Criminology Research Institute of Lower Saxony (KFN) to realize this project. The sample is increased, however, this time of 3,300 to 10,000 persons and the age group of 16 - to 40-year-olds are limited
Prof. Dr. Christian Pfeiffer, director of KFN and head of the investigation, said: "We have currently in Germany neither current, representative and scientific evidence concerning the actual extent of child sexual abuse nor to the specific risk constellations of its formation. Thanks to the favorable environment for the new survey, we are now able to better clarify which children are at particularly high risk of abuse of the persons the greatest hazard in and promise the preventive approaches success. "
by the Federal Ministry of Research, initiated measures are part of the activities of the Roundtable" Child sexual abuse in dependency and power relations in private and public facilities and in the family "of the federal government. Together with Federal Family Minister Kristina Schroeder and Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger consists Schavan it for better protection of children and young people from sexual violence. The 2nd meeting of the Roundtable held on 30 September 2010 in Berlin.

New method to study and treat diseases facilitate
If common medicines no longer act, can offer the use of antibodies against the pathogen is an alternative. Antibodies in the blood of animals such as mice, can not yet use it: The human immune system recognizes them as foreign and rejects them. Scientists at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig is now in an international cooperation a promising approach succeeded: With the help of stem cells, they brought mice to form an immune system with human immune cells - which also produces human antibodies. These immune molecules could serve the research and treatment of human diseases. The researchers published their results in the online edition of Science magazine PLoSOne.
Antibodies are small proteins that are produced by B cells during an immune response. They bind to invading pathogens and mark them by, so that macrophages can recognize and kill the germs. "Our immune system distinguishes between foreign and body's structures - that his job is, "said Professor Carlos A. Guzman, head of the Department of Vaccinology and Applied Microbiology" at the HZI. "Unfortunately, the consequence that come to an antibody therapy exclusively human antibodies in question." In mice formed antibodies to the human immune system, fights by turn produces its own antibodies against them - a danger for the patient. Moreover, it is very difficult to change from the mouse antibodies for use in humans or antibody producing cells to isolate from human and alive.
To equip
mice with a human immune system, the scientists used an already established process: They injected human stem cells in young mice, which due to a severe genetic defect, no immune cells. The stem cells migrate into the bone marrow of young animals, proliferate and form a human immune system in mice. "In our subsequent studies we could find all important immune cell types in mice," said Dr. Pablo Becker, a scientist in the HZI Department of Vaccinology and Applied Microbiology.
To investigate the immune response, the researchers vaccinated mice against hepatitis B or tetanus. Antibody-producing B-cells indicate this as well and is successful, the immune response. The researchers isolated these cells and treated them so that they can survive outside the body in the cell culture dish and continue to produce antibodies. Subsequently, the researchers examined the antibodies. The result can hope: "The antibodies in the test show good properties, but must be improved for use in humans yet," says Becker. "We could, however, first to show that it is possible to obtain human antibodies from mice." It is now important to develop this mouse model further to make it one day encourage the development of therapies for diseases to be able to. "In the future," Becker also hopes, "could these mice are used to develop therapeutic antibodies for the clinic."

09/28/2010 Brain stimulation may relieve chronic pain
in early antiquity People experimented with electrical impulses to pain. Your energy source was then deliver fish surges. After this treatment approach has long been forgotten, as described in the mid-1960s, the two researchers Ronald Melzack and Patrick Wall for the first time scientific the operation, which makes the functional neurosurgery now utilized. Various sensory information is transmitted via parallel pathways that interfere with each other. If certain nerve selectively stimulated by electrical impulses, these signals drive out to the switchboard of the spinal cord and brain, other stimuli that are perceived as pain.
At Tübingen University Hospital have been dealt early on with the new possibilities. In the past five years, extensive clinical experience has been gained with the process. Today is the Tübingen Neurosurgery nationwide reference center for neuro-stimulation, patients from all over Germany and from Foreign look here for help.
The results are convincing: "Patients with chronic pain where surgery and medication or physical therapy were not successful, may be of the spinal cord stimulation improvement hope," said Dr. Guilherme Lepski, specialist of the Tübingen University Hospital for neurosurgery.
In a small operation under local anesthesia, an electrode is inserted into the spinal canal. Even during the surgery the surgeon verified the correct position of the electrode by electrical signals that produce the pain of the body affected by a slight tingling sensation. After the operation provides a small, first outside of the body-mounted pulse generator signals. For one week, then the pain-inhibiting effect in the everyday life of the patient is observed. If successful, then the switch will be transplanted under the skin.
"80 percent of all patients are satisfied with the outcome and experience the intensity of pain at least half reduced," said Dr. Guilherme Lepski. For chronic pain-ridden patients, this means a significant improvement in their quality of life. The therapy has - apart from that produced tingling that is not perceived as unpleasant by the patients - virtually no side effects. In any event, no undesirable: In patients with vascular constriction, the electrical impulses even lead to an expansion of blood vessels.
is in question * this new therapy, the cost is taken when indicated by the health insurance, for a variety of chronic pain patients. Successfully treated patients were already after back surgery, had been left behind despite Eliminated in which compression of the nerve root pain in the back or legs. 09/07/2010 A small child who suffers at night scratching himself bloody, possibly in an atopic dermatitis. The extreme itching is typical of these, also known as atopic skin disease. The disease often occurs during infancy on - and is currently in the developed on the rise. The skin of neurodermatitis is very sensitive and reacts strongly to external stimuli. A team at the LMU researchers Dr. Astrid Peters and Professor Katja Radon accompanied now almost 4000 subjects from childhood to adulthood and asked about atopic diseases and possible environmental and occupational exposure.
"We have the basis of data prediction models developed for puberty, because this phase in the disease process is often important," says radon. "It was found that the most important risk factor for juvenile dermatitis sufferers of occupational contact with certain substances, such as bakers flour or disinfectant. This Results provide the allergist a tool to better advise the patient to hand - especially in terms of career choice "(Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology online, 7 September 2010)
A neurodermatitis is stressful -. For the young patients as also for their parents. Because of the extreme itching often leads to the fact that the children scratching himself bloody, while the inflamed skin may become infected. Atopic eczema, atopic dermatitis is how the medical is assigned to the allergic diseases. The disorder probably results from the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. For example, tobacco smoke and house dust as risk factors detected, while siblings or other contact with other children a positive impact. Atopic dermatitis is in developed countries on the rise and concerns by some estimates up to 20 percent of European children.
occurs frequently Kopp already in young children, may disappear in later years but also of their own accord. A critical stage in the disease process is often at puberty. Some stakeholders heal spontaneously during this period, whereas at the other to a significant deterioration. "It is known that occupational factors play a role," says radon. "But there was no possibility of the progression of the disease in later years to predict with a certain probability. We have, therefore, the data from existing studies on asthma and allergies used to track the progress of atopic dermatitis during puberty, to identify possible risk factors. - And to model the individual development "
The data of 4000 subjects included in The investigation, which was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. This allowed the natural course of atopic dermatitis at the age of 9-11 and 16-20 years are determined. Furthermore, relevant risk factors in terms of the occurrence, recurrence or the existence of the disease during adolescence assessed. About seven percent of participants developed atopic dermatitis only in their youth. Girls had a higher risk of developing in the teenage years, while among the children are increasingly affected boys. As expected, a pre-existing atopic dermatitis was found in close relatives as a strong risk factor.
"was also important for us, but that risk factors lose in infant and childhood in general significantly to influence," says Peters. "This includes, among other things, that a child was not breast fed, has no siblings, and attended a kindergarten. In adolescence seems only the occupational contact to be particularly important to irritating substances. "Among the high-risk jobs are counted work in the bakery, as a cleaner or in nursing. "The effect of exposure in such occupations, even negative, if it is temporary or for a short time," said Peters. "Should consider Allergists these results when considering neurodermatitis or according to vulnerable young people in their career choice." (Suwe)

The "House of Little Scientists" writes an impressive success story. More than 12,500 child care centers have formed since 2007 in 165 regional networks to awaken early in children's interest in scientific phenomena and technology. Therefore, the BMBF is funding the project from next year with an additional two million euros.
The "House of Little Scientists" inspires kids to science and technology. It makes an outstanding contribution to early childhood education. So it can grow further, the BMBF supports the nationwide expansion of the initiative.
objective of the "House of Little Scientists" is the daily encounter with nature and technology permanently anchored in all kindergartens in Germany. In a practical approach supports the "House of Little Scientists" educators in their work, with contributions from one's parents. The aim is to provide children with basic experiments in science and technology and introduce them to get into it. So shall in children awakened as early as possible the interests and talents should be encouraged. In this way the "House of Little Scientists" contribute to strengthening early childhood education and the long-term employee retention in the natural sciences and engineering.
to achieve this qualification, the "House of Little Scientists" nationwide workshops educators in the field of child-oriented teaching of natural sciences, provides easy-to-use teaching materials and organizes a national week of action on science in early childhood.
The "House of Little Scientists" directed their educational work of the following principles.
first Children and teachers together make the learning process (co-construction) work
• teachers with the children ideas and approaches.
• Children learn from each other and exchange.
• The experimentation is not confined to the "Imitation" of experiments.
second Children realize that they learn what they learn and how they learn (meta-cognition)
• educators and focus on children not only content and activities but also the learning process itself.
• The phenomena stem from the child's living environment and are embedded in complex relationships.
• The documentation of the activities supported the learning process of children.
The BMBF is funding the project is currently at 3.8 million euros in the period 2008 to 2010.

August 2010 The following article and podcast is WDR5, Dec. 2009th
He treats the issue of burnout, here from the perspective of affected women who had taken a preventive course:
Every third German feels under constant stress, 80 percent are overloaded at least frequently. This is the result of a recent study by the technician's health insurance. The group with the greatest impact are therefore the housewives and husbands - not the managers. The budget does little by itself is just not - and never really stops. Added to worries come to children and finances and lack of recognition. Women who choose instead the profession, is not doing better. You usually have to bring children, kitchen and having a career and to always pretty smile. Six working mothers met for five days in a hotel, to learn, time to step on the brake.

How Many Beads On A Troll Bracelet
08/27/2010 Scientists at the Paul Flechsig Institute for Brain Research, Department of Molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration, the University of Leipzig have found evidence that the degenerative Alzheimer's disease a result of a brain development disorder. "Alzheimer's seems to be innate, in fact," is how Prof. Dr. Thomas Arendt recent research that now in the journal The American Journal of Pathology were described.
According to Arendt called hyperploid neurons are responsible for ensuring that die in Alzheimer's disease brain cells in large numbers. "In the development of stem cells to neurons, there is actually a mechanism that allows die such 'false' Blocks'," said Arendt. In the hyperploid neurons - in contrast to healthy cells - instead of two pairs of chromosomes a variety of genetic inheritance support available. "Some take four or even six other pairs of chromosomes," says the brain researcher. Since there are numerous combinations of such cells, they also speak of a mosaic. "These mosaics are also in the normally developed adult brain healthy available, "said Arendt.
According to the Alzheimer's expert at the Paul Flechsig Institute, the human system can apparently handle a certain number of hyperploid cells in the brain well, and they tolerate." In the brain of Alzheimer's patients but we twice as many resistant;. it seems to be broken through a tolerance limit, "says Arendt, the problem is that Hyperploidie is an irreversible process, the affected cells die in any case, just as if a not in brain development undertaken. regulation will be rescheduled Determined
have the brain the researchers in the study of samples from brains of people with varying degrees of Alzheimer's disease.: If the hyperploid cells in the normal brain only available in limited numbers, so their numbers increase in pre-clinical phase of the disease and for the period in which only mild effects are identifiable, clearly. When difficult patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease however, falls again, the number of hyperploid cells. "A clear indication that they are dead, because cells do not simply disappear like this."
From now present findings of scientists can derive a number of new issues. "Why is a hyperploid cell as susceptible to cell death? Is this failure has also detectable in other organs than the brain? Is there also harmful influences on mother and child during pregnancy, leading to the developmental disorder of the brain? "says Thomas Arendt only a few possible approaches. quick answers but there was no question, he warned against exaggerated expectations.

Dogs Swollen Upper Front Leg
Berlin, August 2010 -.. People with depression are at increased risk of developing diabetes type 2 disease to diabetes mellitus, but also an existing diabetes increases the risk of developing depression coming two diseases together, potentiate the negative impact on life quality and life of those affected. diabetesDE and the German Diabetes Society (DDG) are calling for better mental health care of diabetics.
The increased risk of diabetes to suffer from depression and the negative impact of the presence of both diseases are well documented by studies. These add up not only to potentiate themselves: in comparison with diabetic patients without depression, depressed diabetics suffer eleven times more common among small complications of the blood vessels. The risk of injury to the large vessels that can lead to circulatory problems or heart attack is increased by 2.5-fold.
any chronic disease, the risk for depression or increase depression. The negative consequences of diabetes, however, particularly high: a successful treatment of diabetes requires the active cooperation of the patient. "Depression set in this case is a major barrier, since they hamper the motivation for treatment and the implementation of therapeutic interventions sustainable," says co-author Dr. Bernhard Kulzer, president of the Association of Psychology and Behavioral Medicine at the German Diabetes Society (DDG) and Managing Director of the Research Institute of the Diabetes Academy Bad Mergentheim (FIDAM), in a recent publication. This increases the risk of late complications of diabetes such as loss of sight, Foot amputation or dialysis. The fluctuations in blood sugar that occur with many diabetics burden the affected emotionally.
have to suffer the other hand, people with depression is an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This is due to the fact that depression increased the risk factors obesity and physical inactivity. In addition, the mental illness itself is an independent risk factor: Depressive disorders may be associated with a stress-related increase in cortisol levels in the blood. This hormone promotes the so-called insulin resistance, which means the body's own insulin is present leads, but not sufficient for incorporation of the sugar from the blood into body cells.
diabetesDE DDG and therefore demand that people with depression are examined primarily for type 2 diabetes. Affected with diabetes also need psychological support, especially occur at the beginning of the disease, and if the first time late complications. No waiver of any psychological treatment, not only worsened the quality of life and lifespan of diabetics. The lack of intervention makes the disease probably also more expensive. U.S. studies show that the higher costs for the treatment of depressive patients with diabetes by multiples higher than in diabetic patients without depression.

08.2010 Mental illness rising in younger than average at
DAK sounds the alarm: Especially in young adults, mental illnesses in the past twelve years has increased disproportionately. This shows a long-term analysis of the DAK-health reports, in which the medical sick leave of workers insured are shown.
The disease cases of mental disease have been among 20 - to 29-year-old women since 1997 more than doubled (up 143 percent). By comparison, the increase in working women of all age groups was 107 percent. On the men's shows the same development. The 25 - to 29-year-olds reported in the past twelve years to 124 percent more cases. In total, for all working men, the illness by 97 percent.
"More and more young people to respond with obvious mental problems to their needs in the academic, professional and private lives," said psychologist Frank Meiners of the DAK development. "The increasing burden of stress does appear in young adults, more and more sick leave due to depression or anxiety," continued Meiners. Besides the everyday stress in this age group leave and alcohol use and bullying their marks in school.
According to the DAK, it is important to recognize mental disorders at an early stage and treated adequately to prevent chronicity. Mental illnesses are usually long-term illnesses that are treated at different levels - such as medication, psychotherapy and lifestyle changes.

08/05/2010 Not all people tolerate coffee, and for some, caffeine can even trigger anxiety symptoms. Responsible for a small variation in the genome. Their effect can be offset somewhat by regular coffee.
coffee is and remains the favorite drink the Germans. 1.3 billion cups they have, according to the German Coffee Association drunk last year. In other words, on average, every German has come up with 150 liters of coffee taste distributed throughout the year.
What beverages such as coffee and tea, cola and cocoa but also worldwide is so popular, especially their stimulating effect. That makes other people but to create: you feel after drinking caffeinated beverages palpitations, sweating, restlessness and difficulty falling asleep, many of whom also experience a vague fear. Particularly patients who suffer from anxiety disorders drink, so often no more coffee or reduce consumption.
Würzburg scientists under the direction of psychiatrist Professor Jürgen Deckert have a working group led by Peter Rogers of Bristol University found out that the degree of anxiety depends also on the regularity of coffee enjoyment. Through its work, the journal Neuropsychopharmacology reports in its latest issue.
changes in the genetic material of the shutter
are changes in the genome are responsible for ensuring that some people react with fear to a cup of coffee or tea. "We have shown that a variant in the gene of adenosine A2A receptors play a major role in this process plays, "said Jürgen Deckert. Normally, the adenosine docks in certain areas of the brain to the receptor and triggers a calming reaction. If the receptor gene is altered, caffeine can suppress the adenosine and thus prevent its calming effect.
Therefore, those involved must carry the gene, however, both the paternal and the maternal chromosome. "We have noted in a study of volunteers in cooperation with the group of Harriet de Wit of the University of Chicago, that only the subjects who were on the long arm of both chromosomes had 22 each, the same gene variants to a mean dose of caffeine responded with fear, "said Deckert. This effect was - just as the stimulating effect of caffeine - temporarily, with the time it subsided after a few hours and was completely worn off.
comes on the dose it to
The fear response was, however, only if the test subjects a mean dose of caffeine increased - namely 150 milligrams, the equivalent of two cups of coffee. At a lower dose (50 milligrams), none of the subjects responded with fear, at a high dose (400 milligrams), however, all subjects showed an increased anxiety - as the result of another investigation with scientists from the University of Chicago. The genetic variation is thus only in the mid-dose range for the development of anxiety relevant.
"The result is not surprising. Similar trends are also found in other areas, "said Deckert. An example: A love story is afraid normally not a spectator in a horror film for each. In the "medium dose" - a thriller - only those who feel fear, which are sensitive to it.
regular consumption desensitizes
Anyone who reacts with fear to coffee, but this must not do all his life. "We are in our recent investigation together Peter Rogers of Bristol University examine the question whether the levels of daily caffeine consumption of the subjects on the genetic effects impact, "said Deckert. The results showed: For people who regularly took a medium or high dose of caffeine, the gene effects is weaker. In other words, "can probably make back the plant-specific intolerance while gradually increasing the dose and regular use," says the doctor. Deckert evaluates the results of this study as further proof of how complex can be gene-environment interactions.
The relationship with anxiety disorders
same genetic variant, which leads to an increased anxiety after the consumption of caffeine could lead to Würzburg researchers in collaboration with researchers at the University of Bonn Mark Nöthen several years ago identified as a genetic risk variant for anxiety disorders. Alone, they may well not be the cause of an anxiety disorder. "It certainly needs additional environmental factors such as the consumption of caffeine or traumatic life events," said Jürgen Deckert.
subjects searched
These complex interactions of caffeine and other indirectly acting on the adenosine A2A receptor substances at the time of the Würzburg researchers in cooperation with a Münster Katharina Domschke working group under the Collaborative Research Center SFB TRR 58 "Fear, fear, anxiety disorders" investigated. Are still looking for volunteer participants. The subjects should be healthy and between 18 and 65 years old.
